01. MOTOHAKONE

Amasake ChayaCulture
Founded in the early Edo period, this teahouse has a history of nearly 400 years. Located along the Old Tokaido Road in Hakone, it was once a resting place for travelers journeying from Edo.
Their signature amazake is made only from rice and rice koji, with no added sugar, offering a naturally gentle sweetness.
In 2009, the thatched roof of the building was carefully relocated and restored using original techniques and reclaimed materials: the teahouse continues to operate today, maintaining its traditional charm. Aomame (Green Soybean) Kinako Mochi, a simple sweet made from soybeans, is still served, allowing visitors to experience flavors passed down through Hakone's history.
